More than a feeling

  

A line from a rock song from my past gave me a timely reminder.

You need to know (head and heart) that God is. That God is real, that God Loves you. Don’t rely just like on feeling good because you will be misled and may get lost.

If you are on your own and praying, don’t rely on “feeling good” as an indicator.  Satan is a master of disguise. You might tend to follow that feeling Good means feeling God and be sent down a sensory dead end. When the bad spirit departs, you feel alone, lonely, misled and afraid.  Above all else you need to be confident in your salvation.

And while we are in this area let me say that happiness and joy are not the same thing.  Happiness is not the same thing as joy.  Happiness is driven by external stimulus and can disappear at any time. Joy is internal and comes from the solid knowledge that God is God all the time, even when things don’t look so good.
