I was actually thinking about the first passage below after hearing so much back and forth and political wrangling that the Holy Spirit hit me with ‘whatever things are of good report’. When I put “Finally Brethren” into my WordSearch program I actually got 14 occurrences in the New Testament, so I included the second one below as a reminder that we ought to be focusing on the good, not the evil even in the present age.
Philippians 4:8-9 (KJV)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
1 Peter 3:8-12 (KJV)
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile:
Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.
