Daily Service: Hole

DAY 80

The Bible tells us that we all have a measure of faith to believe.  I believe that sets up the idea and it is born out by all known cultures that we all have a need to have a deity that we look to.  The problem with most of those cultures is that nobody ever told them about Jesus.  Maybe you have grown up in a non religious environment and you just don’t know about that hole and you have been trying to fill it with everything: money, job, accomplishment, but nothing seems to satisfy.

This is from an old Hank Williams song

Yea! My bucket’s got a hole in it

Yea! My bucket’s got a hole in it

Yea! My bucket’s got a hole in it

I can’t buy no beer

Okay now we don’t relate to a lot of these details but his lament is thoroughly Biblical. We always want what we can’t have, and we are never satisfied (this is the worldly truth for most people)

There is also a line in the song about how he can’t have the girl in the bosses’ yard.  Same thing.

But more to the point, let’s talk about that hole.  If you don’t know Christ, you may well be seeking to fill a God shaped void with everything but God.

Revelation 22:16-21 (KJV)
I Jesus have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the churches. I am the root and the offspring of David, and the bright and morning star.  And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.   For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:  And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
