Well I am one of the few remaining members of the church I attend that is older than our pastor. When a few families decided to form a new church (this one…Apostolic Bible Fellowship Guam), Pastor Robert and Sister Gilda asked me one day at the office (I worked for Robert & Robert for 7 years after I retired from the Navy) if I could be under a pastor that is younger than I am. I quoted a passage to them that we have seen and used many times in this fellowship: Follow me as I follow Christ.
1 Corinthians 11:1 (AMP)
PATTERN YOURSELVES after me [follow my example], as I imitate and follow Christ (the Messiah).
Pastor Robert I have never known a time in all the years I have known you when I couldn’t see the love for God in you. I took a lot of notes (yes you should) and I looked them up and prayed over the messages I got from you. Never once did I see you stray from God’s Word.
So, I’ll follow you Pastor.
Thank you so much for taking on the burden of pastoring this congregation. As one might say, “It’s kind of like trying to herd cats”. You have been patient with us, you have taught us, you prayed for all of us.
And I add this one for good measure:
1 John 4:1 (AMP)
BELOVED, DO not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world.
And for all of you out there: Yes if you call on the name of Christ, you are the body of Christ. You still need to be in a congregation of fellow believers. This of course is what is commonly referred to as a church (Fellowship of believers, not the building they worship together in)
