Well this is probably a case of preaching to the mirror, but God just reminded me of a conversation I had with a brother in the church that called me apologetically about a need he had. I reminded him gently that I wasn’t God and I don’t see quite everything, but I had gotten an impression of his need.
James 4:3 NKJV You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.
James 1:5-8 (ESV) If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord;
he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
By the way, just so we all are on the same page, God already knows what you need but He wants you to ask. God’s answers are yes and Amen. God wants to bless you. But let’s come back to real world analogy: you have 2 children, one is obedient, cheerful and eager to please, the other is rebellious, sullen, and fiercely independent (describes at least 2 of mine right there). Now according to the Bible God loves us all equally, but you as a parent don’t always have all the godly attributes you should. Which one are you going to respond best to?
Hebrews 11:6 (ESV) And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
