Have you received the Holy Ghost since you beleived?

This is an entry in my Daily Service 2 Manuscript you can download from Amazon.

I thought of this again after having a lengthy discussion with a guy who honestly seemed to be seeking more of a relationship with God. He specifically said he has read the Bible in various translations several times, but he never got much out of it. I suggested that maybe what was missing was the Holy Ghost in his relationship that seems to be non existent.

DAY 38  HOLY Spirit Come!

Have you received the Holy Ghost since you believed?  Now before we get all worked up in an argument about a works gospel, I just want to point out that you must believe (verb) before you can be saved because your actions are required to complete the work of Grace in your life.

 Acts 19:1-7 (ASV)
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper country came to Ephesus, and found certain disciples:  and he said unto them, Did ye receive the Holy Spirit when ye believed? And they said unto him, Nay, we did not so much as hear whether the Holy Spirit was given. And he said, Into what then were ye baptized? And they said, Into John’s baptism. And Paul said, John baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people that they should believe on him that should come after him, that is, on Jesus.  And when they heard this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus.  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Spirit came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied. And they were in all about twelve men.

And to that I would add, as I did with the gentleman I was witnessing to, ACTS 2:36-39

Acts 2:36-39 (ESV) Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.”  Now when they heard this they were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?” And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord our God calls to himself.”

    • How would you answer a respectful Islamic that says the Bible can’t be accurate because it’s been translated too much?

      • Hi the more recent translations are not translating from the last transcript, they are translating from multiple original manuscripts (Hebrew, Greek etc) and using modern linguistic techniques to ensure the veracity of the text.

  3. Earlier, Brucebiblepage has asked me this question:
How would you answer a respectful Islamic that says the Bible can’t be accurate because it’s been translated too much?

The way I would answer him is by respectfully saying that he is wrong, stating that ” Every word of God proves true; he is a shield to those who take refuge in him. Do not add to his words, lest he rebuke you and you be found a liar.” which is found in Proverbs 30: 5-6. This scripture says that every word of God is true, even when translated, and that He is a shield to us all through Himself and His eternal word, which is the Bible. And God does say not to add to His words which the people printing the Bible and the translators have to obey and they would. The Bible also states “I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book, and if anyone takes away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God will take away his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book.” which is also found in Revelation 22: 18-19. This clearly states not to add or take away any part of the Bible or else you will be punished, and the translators and printers take this part very seriously. This would be my answer.
