Daily Service: Tradition versus Scripture
I was watching a video I just tagged in a post about priestly garments being recreated according to the Bible. I let the videos run while I was working on other stuff and a new started about the location of the temples in Jerusalem. If you know anything of the history of this place, the “Temple Mount” is about the most fought over piece of real estate on the planet. This video proposes that the site of the temple is not under the Islamic “Dome of the Rock” and the faithful in Jerusalem are not praying at the western wall of the original or last temple. The enclosure that now houses the Dome of the Rock mosque is actually the site of a large Roman Fort that the Romans cleared when they conquered Jerusalem. This video proposes that the true Temple site is just down the hill from that disputed site in the City of David. Watch the Video, then read on.
I did all that to say this: Don’t let religious tradition that is not Biblical get in the way of your relationship with Christ. I am not picking on any particular religion, but I know that Jesus had trouble with the Pharisees and the Sadducees because they felt threatened. They had established traditions around the Biblical Law they had been given. The reason they did that was so that no one, including them could violate God’s Law easily. The problem has always been and always will be man’s basic sinful nature.
2 Chronicles 3:1 (ESV) Then Solomon began to build the house of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah, where the LORD had appeared to David his father, at the place that David had appointed, on the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.
Micah 3:12 (ESV) Therefore because of you Zion shall be plowed as a field; Jerusalem shall become a heap of ruins, and the mountain of the house a wooded height.
