Bible Verses about Selflessness

Compiled and Edited by BibleStudyTools Staff on 12/6/2018

What does the Bible say about Selflessness? – Themes of selflessness are found throughout the books of scripture as noble and altruistic. We are encouraged to serve and assist our fellow mankind in love for God and all of creation. Ironically, it is in our own self-interest to continuously focus on how we can help the world around us. Being too self-centered causes us to feel disconnected and irrelevant as we strive for social relationships and purpose.

Discover glorious biblical quotes about being selfless and the righteousness of serving others in this collection of scriptures. It is favored by God, and humans alike, that we live altruistic and generous lives with the gifts we have been given.

1 Corinthians 10:24 No one should seek their own good, but the good of others.

1 Peter 3:8  Finally, all of you, be like-minded, be sympathetic, love one another, be compassionate and humble.

1 Thessalonians 5:15 Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.

Galatians 5:14 For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.”

  1. The sooner we begin to understand that our ‘self’ nature is actually a great enemy within the better off we will be. It cannot be cast out, only repented of and put to death. When we follow Jesus in complete faith and obedience He will be faithful to lead us on a journey to free us from our bondage to ‘self’. May all who read this embark on this journey.

    Thank you for this post.
