DAILY SERVICE – Secular Holidays
You recognize of course that this column is written with Christian Spiritual Growth in mind, right? Now, having said that. How do you approach secular and religious holidays?
For example, we are fast approaching what is know as Halloween, All Souls Day, Day of the Dead, etc.
My church fellowship (UPCI does this quite a bit), does a Fall Festival get together on what everybody else calls Halloween. It is specifically counter cultural. We have food, games, good Christian music and fellowship. It keeps our kids off the streets and our households don’t participate in the fallacy. We will have a candy toss before we are done of course so that they get a haul of safe treats to take home.
What do you and/or your church fellowship teach, do, and believe about these things?
I am not telling anybody what they should do, but asking you to look with a more critical eye at “what we’ve always done because everybody else does it”.
Romans 12:2 (NKJV) And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
