Today’s Verse
If you have raced with foot-runners and they have wearied you, how will you compete with horses? And if in a safe land you fall down, how will you fare in the thickets of the Jordan? – Jeremiah 12:5
By God’s grace, I survived Basic Military Training. It was forty-five grueling days of pain, rigid exercises and tough discipline. Conditions were rough and difficult but I am thankful having learned a lot. Before 4:00 in the morning, trainees performed strenuous calisthenics and afterwards we would jog until 6:00 AM. All of the meals were meager and I was hungry all the time. One day, we laid down on the ground at high noon. The sun scorched us from above and we covered our eyes with our hats. The tactical officer asked, “Do you take for granted the shade that covers your head?” This made me realize I should never take anything for granted again. We were forced to either toughen up or quit. This is a hard life and we must steel and prepare ourselves. If we cannot survive during times of peace in a safe land, how will we fare when the days of trouble come? – Commentary by Mark Natividad
Today’s Prayer Our Heavenly Father, forgive us if we take for granted Your provisions for us. Thank You for reminding us to toughen up instead of complaining about our circumstances. We ask you to give us strength and wisdom to face the storms in our life, Amen.
