I’m not trying to insult anyone, but I read this line in a Christian Romance twice recently. The plot was something like this: A women gets away for a very restrictive Christian group that teaches that women are property; they only have value if a man marries her and she can only be saved if he marries her. Long story short, she grew up thinking that she knew God and the scriptures, but she got only the wrath and anger, not the love and forgiveness. Twice in the book (Mac – Sisters by Design Book 1 by Sharon Srock) are concerned because she rejects any notion of getting to know the real God.
How about a secular reference: In the movie “Take the Lead” a white girl visits a mostly black school for a dance class and a white boy who has grown up in black culture and really identifies with it says something like “we don’t need any white bread coming down here to dis us” to which the girl replies “do you even own a mirror?”
2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV) Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
James 1:23-25 (NKJV) For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
