Daily Service: Light A Candle/ Light Shine Bright

Updated for volume 9

John 1:4-5 NKJV In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.

In World War 1 there was a saying “third man on a match is bad luck”. You see snipers could see the glow of a match a mile away. By the time the third guy lit up, bang! He is dead.

Darkness cannot extinguish, cannot hide the light.  A lit match in the darkness can be seen a mile away.  A single candle (you) can light up a dark world that you walk in every day.  Your testimony, as well as knowing more from the Word consistently is an inextinguishable force that Satan cannot withstand.

This is a chorus from a song that Avalon did for their Christmas album, but I love the picture this evokes in my mind

 AVALON Light a Candle
Chorus:
Light a candle
Light the dark
Light the world
Light a heart or two
Light a candle for me
I'll light a candle for you

Light a candle
for the homeless and the hungry;
a little shelter from the cold.
Light a candle
for the broken and forgotten;
may the season warm their souls.
Can we open our hearts
to shine through the dark.
