Bible Reading Enhances Any Day (BREAD)

Daily Bible Reading: 2 Chronicles 34-36, Psalm 130

2 Chronicles 35:20-22 (NKJV) After all this, when Josiah had prepared the temple, Necho king of Egypt came up to fight against Carchemish by the Euphrates; and Josiah went out against him. But he sent messengers to him, saying, “What have I to do with you, king of Judah? I have not come against you this day, but against the house with which I have war; for God commanded me to make haste. Refrain from meddling with God, who is with me, lest He destroy you.”  Nevertheless, Josiah would not turn his face from him, but disguised himself so that he might fight with him and did not heed the words of Necho from the mouth of God. So he came to fight in the Valley of Megiddo.

35:21-27. Necho tried his best to dissuade Josiah from this course of action, arguing that God was with him (Necho) in his mission and would destroy Josiah if he did not back off. Necho had indeed received such instructions from the Lord God, but Josiah intervened anyway and despite disguising himself (like Ahab; cf. 18:29) was fatally wounded on the battlefield at Megiddo. For centuries the flat plains of Megiddo have been the scene of many battles. Armageddon (lit., the mountain of Megiddo) will be the scene of Christ’s battle at His second coming (Rev. 16:16; cf. Rev. 19).
