Zach Williams explained the following about “There Was Jesus”, “This is the song that’s really about just the reflection. I’m looking back at twenty years ago when I got no idea that God was in the moment. […] But looking back now I can see that—you know—He had His hand in everything I was doing.”

Speaking about the collaboration with Dolly Parton, Zach Williams told, “I remember her walking into the room and she told me—you know—she said, ‘I heard this song from the first verse and half the chorus…’ she said, ‘I took my headphones off and I wanted to sing on this song with you.’ For me that was just another cool moment of the record, just to have the honour and privilege to record a song with Dolly Parton.”
