Daily Service: Is your church a country club or a hospital?

I had another long talk with a Realtor I have known for many years, all the way back to our sons being in the Boy Scouts together. The Realtor is a Christian and we have had a lot of faith-based discussions, so it was no surprise when she hit me with this one.

I put it to you now to get your input. What should church organizations and individual Christians do about or react to LGBT issues? As many denominations struggle with this, I would like to remind all of us that we are all sinners. The difference is that when you turned to God (at least I hope this is true) you should correctly perceive that God is willing to forgive just about anything, but it means turning from the sin that besets you and walking in holiness with God as He perfects you day by day. That is mostly what I was thinking on a personal level.

As an elder in my church and being part of the leadership, I try to stress that we are in the business of helping people find the Lord and grow in their faith. That’s kind of hard to do if you shut the door in their face. Are we unwelcoming, unloving? Are we judging instead of reaching out?

Casting Crowns – If we are the Body

So I put together a few scriptures that are bubbling up here and then let you comment and add more thoughts, prayers, and scriptures toward good solutions

Luke 5:31-32 (ESV) And Jesus answered them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.”

Mark 2:17 (ESV) And when Jesus heard it, he said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”

1 Timothy 1:12-16 (ESV) I thank him who has given me strength, Christ Jesus our Lord, because he judged me faithful, appointing me to his service, though formerly I was a blasphemer, persecutor, and insolent opponent. But I received mercy because I had acted ignorantly in unbelief, and the grace of our Lord overflowed for me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus. The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, of whom I am the foremost. But I received mercy for this reason, that in me, as the foremost, Jesus Christ might display his perfect patience as an example to those who were to believe in him for eternal life.
