Open Your Bible
Updated for Volume 22
This thought occurred to me during a Sunday Sermon about the blood of Jesus. The message was about the power of the blood of Christ to wash away sin. First, let’s do the Old Testament type (Read more about types and shadows to aid your Old Testament reading) Let’s look at the Passover in Exodus, then we’ll head over to the Wedding Garment parable in Matthew to clarify the point.
Exodus 12:6-7 (NKJV) Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month. Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight. And they shall take some of the blood and put it on the two doorposts and on the lintel of the houses where they eat it.
The Nation of Israel was given an exemption from the plague that killed all the firstborn (human and animal) in Egypt. What would have happened if they did not obey and put the blood on the doorposts? The angel of death would not have passed over you and your firstborn would have been killed also.
Matthew 22:11-14 (NKJV) But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. So, he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ For many are called, but few are chosen.”
Background: The guests were from the highways and byways and probably did not have a nice garment to wear, so the guests were provided with a wedding garment (putting on God’s righteousness), but this one guy refused to put on the garment, and he was kicked out because he did not obey his host.
God offers His salvation free, but you must apply the blood of Jesus or you will not enter heaven. (see previous posts about putting on the garment of righteousness).
