Daily Bible Reading 22 May 2018

5/22/18 Daily Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 22-24, Acts 13, Proverbs 22

1 Chronicles 22:6-13 (KJV)
Then he called for Solomon his son, and charged him to build an house for the LORD God of Israel. And David said to Solomon, My son, as for me, it was in my mind to build an house unto the name of the LORD my God: But the word of the LORD came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight. Behold, a son shall be born to thee, who shall be a man of rest; and I will give him rest from all his enemies round about: for his name shall be Solomon, and I will give peace and quietness unto Israel in his days. He shall build an house for my name; and he shall be my son, and I will be his father; and I will establish the throne of his kingdom over Israel for ever. Now, my son, the LORD be with thee; and prosper thou, and build the house of the LORD thy God, as he hath said of thee. Only the LORD give thee wisdom and understanding, and give thee charge concerning Israel, that thou mayest keep the law of the LORD thy God. Then shalt thou prosper, if thou takest heed to fulfil the statutes and judgments which the LORD charged Moses with concerning Israel: be strong, and of good courage; dread not, nor be dismayed.

Acts 13:2-3 (KJV)
As they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Ghost said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. And when they had fasted and prayed, and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

God Shine through me

Daily Service – GOD SHINE THROUGH ME

A song we sing in church was running through my mind this morning during my devotions, so I went looking for the passage the song was written on.  What I found was so much more.  Why are we persecuted? Why are we maligned?  Because we show the Love of Christ (or at least we should) in these frail human vessels, so that God’s Glory shines out of us to a dark world. The job for you is to be the vessel worthy of this task. I don’t own this light, I am not worthy to hold this light, but Christ died for me, so I can hold this light inside of me. The light is the Holy Spirit (Christ in me).  So, I shine forth the Love of Christ so that you see Christ and not me.

2 Corinthians 4:7-11 (AMP)
However, we possess this precious treasure [the divine Light of the Gospel] in [frail, human] vessels of earth, that the grandeur and exceeding greatness of the power may be shown to be from God and not from ourselves. We are hedged in (pressed) on every side [troubled and oppressed in every way], but not cramped or crushed; we suffer embarrassments and are perplexed and unable to find a way out, but not driven to despair; We are pursued (persecuted and hard driven), but not deserted [to stand alone]; we are struck down to the ground, but never struck out and destroyed; Always carrying about in the body the liability and exposure to the same putting to death that the Lord Jesus suffered, so that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be shown forth by and in our bodies. For we who live are constantly [experiencing] being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake, that the [resurrection] life of Jesus also may be evidenced through our flesh which is liable to death.

2-corinthians-47_2466_1024x768

2 Corinthians 4:7-11 (KJV)
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of the power may be of God, and not of us. We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair;
Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed; Always bearing about in the body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our body. For we which live are alway delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

2 Corinthians 4:7-11 (GenevaBible)
But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellency of that power might be of God, and not of us. We are afflicted on every side, yet are we not in distress: we are in doubt, but yet we despair not. We are persecuted, but not forsaken: cast down, but we perish not. Everywhere we bear about in our body the dying of the Lord Jesus, that the life of Jesus might also be made manifest in our bodies. For we which live, are always delivered unto death for Jesus’ sake, that the life also of Jesus might be made manifest in our mortal flesh.

Daily Bible Reading 21 May 2018

5/21/18 Daily Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 19-21, Acts 12, Proverbs 21

1 Chronicles 21:17 (NKJV)
And David said to God, “Was it not I who commanded the people to be numbered? I am the one who has sinned and done evil indeed; but these sheep, what have they done? Let Your hand, I pray, O LORD my God, be against me and my father’s house, but not against Your people that they should be plagued.”

Pray for those oppressed for the name of Jesus.  Ask God to intervene and He will send his angels.

Acts 12:5-7 (NKJV)

Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God for him by the church.
And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison. Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, “Arise quickly!” And his chains fell off his hands.

What’s in a name?

DAY 46

What’s in a name?

Isaiah 9:6 NKJV

For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Philippians 2:10 NKJV

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,

Acts 4:10-12 NKJV

let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. This is the ‘stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.’ Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

Acts 2:21 NKJV

And it shall come to pass That whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.’

Acts 2:38-39 NKJV

Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”

I am proud to be a Christian. To be known as a follower of Christ is the highest calling in the world.

What’s in a name? Praise the name of Jesus, name above all names.

5/19/18 Daily Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 16-18, Acts 11, Proverbs 19

1 Chronicles 16:11 (KJV)
Seek the LORD and his strength, seek his face continually.

GiveThanks1Chron

 1 Chronicles 16:36 (NKJV)
Blessed be the LORD God of Israel From everlasting to everlasting! And all the people said, “Amen!” and praised the LORD.

Praise Him

Acts 11:15-18 (NKJV)
And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning. Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, ‘John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us when we believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I that I could withstand God?” When they heard these things they became silent; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted to the Gentiles repentance to life.”

CITY ON A HILL

DAY 45

CITY ON A HILL

Casting Crowns sings this song and it burdens my heart and makes me sing with Joy at the same time. Look at the lyrics, listen to the song. What does the Holy Spirit tell you about yourself and your fellowship through this message. I’ll tell you what it did for me: I asked God to make me His instrument, not my own selfish view but His loving view of our mission in this world.

Did you hear of the city on the hill
Said one old man to the other
It once shined bright, and it would be shining still
But they all started turning on each other

You see the poets thought the dancers were shallow
And the soldiers thought the poets were weak
And the elders saw the young ones as foolish
And the rich man never heard the poor man speak

But one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill

Each one thought that they knew better
But they were different by design
Instead of standing strong together
They let their differences divide

And one by one, they ran away
With their made up minds to leave it all behind
And the light began to fade
In the City on the Hill, the City on the Hill

And the world is searching still

But it was the rhythm of the dancers
That gave the poets life
It was the spirit of the poets
That gave the soldiers strength to fight
It was fire of the young ones
It was the wisdom of the old
It was the story of the poor man
That needed to be told

It is the rhythm of the dancers
That gives the poets life
It is the spirit of the poets
That gives the soldiers strength to fight
It is fire of the young ones
It is the wisdom of the old
It is the story of the poor man
That’s needing to be told

But one by one will we run away
With our made up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the City on the Hill

One by one will we run away
With our made up minds to leave it all behind
As the light begins to fade in the City on the Hill
The city on the hill

(Come home)
And the Father’s calling still
(Come home)
To the city on the hill

(Come home)

Daily Bible Reading 18 May 2018

5/18/18 Daily Bible Reading: 1 Chronicles 13-15, Proverbs 18

1 Chronicles 15:27-29 (KJV)
And David was clothed with a robe of fine linen, and all the Levites that bare the ark, and the singers, and Chenaniah the master of the song with the singers: David also had upon him an ephod of linen. Thus all Israel brought up the ark of the covenant of the LORD with shouting, and with sound of the cornet, and with trumpets, and with cymbals, making a noise with psalteries and harps. And it came to pass, as the ark of the covenant of the LORD came to the city of David, that Michal the daughter of Saul looking out at a window saw king David dancing and playing: and she despised him in her heart.

15:25-29. Somewhere in the procession, perhaps at its head, David danced (v. 29), clothed in the garments of a priest (a robe of fine linen and a linen ephod, v. 27). Michal, his wife, watching from a window… despised him for she mistook his holy zeal for exhibitionism (cf. comments on 2 Sam. 6:20).

What are you reading?

I have always been an avid reader all the way back to grade school. I loved biographies and Hardy Boys Mysteries.  Through the years I have read a variety and even now I have shelves and stacks of books.  Most of focus is toward faith based books, histories, fiction and such.

Today I stopped by the bookstore with the intent of finding something other than fiction. I picked up Thomas E. Ricks “Churchill and Orwell, the fight for freedom” I am really intrigued with the way the author parallels these two through the 1930’s and 1940’s.

I also bought  Stephen J Harvill’s “21 Secrets of Million Dollar Sellers”

I would like to hear from you.  What are you reading? What do you like about it? What are you getting out of it?

Daily Service: Love one another

Daily Service – Love one Another

LOVE

How do you suppose Jesus wanted to set us apart from other religions (Pagan, Jewish or some other kind)?

He said “this is how you shall be known as my disciples, that you love one another”

John 13:34-35 (AMP)
I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another. By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].

Romans 13:8 (AMP)
Keep out of debt and owe no man anything, except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor [who practices loving others] has fulfilled the Law [relating to one’s fellowmen, meeting all its requirements].

1 John 4:7-8 (AMP)
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is (springs) from God; and he who loves [his fellowmen] is begotten (born) of God and is coming [progressively] to know and understand God [to perceive and recognize and get a better and clearer knowledge of Him]. He who does not love has not become acquainted with God [does not and never did know Him], for God is love.

Prodigal son turns toward home

Verse of the Day

But when he came to himself he said, How many hired servants of my father’s have bread enough and to spare, and I perish here with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight:
