11/8/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 48-50, 1 Peter 1, Proverbs 8

These chapters of Jeremiah are specific prophecies against specific groups of people during a specific time.  What you should get out of this is that God knows everything, nothing is hidden.

Jeremiah 50:2 (NKJV)
“Declare among the nations, Proclaim, and set up a standard; Proclaim–do not conceal it– Say, ‘Babylon is taken, Bel is shamed. Merodach is broken in pieces; Her idols are humiliated, Her images are broken in pieces.’

Jeremiah 50:46 (NKJV)
At the noise of the taking of Babylon The earth trembles, And the cry is heard among the nations.

Book: 1 Peter

Author: The Apostle Peter (1:1), with the assistance of Silvanus (Silas 5:12).

Date: Approximately AD 65.

In ten words or less: Suffering for the sake of Jesus is noble and good.

1 Peter 1:3-5 (NKJV)
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

11/7/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 45-47, James 5, Proverbs 7

Jeremiah 45:4-5 (NKJV)
Thus you shall say to him, ‘Thus says the LORD: “Behold, what I have built I will break down, and what I have planted I will pluck up, that is, this whole land. And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them; for behold, I will bring adversity on all flesh,” says the LORD. “But I will give your life to you as a prize in all places, wherever you go.” ‘ ”

James 5:13-15 (NKJV)
Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing psalms. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven.

Daily Service: What shall it profit a man

DAY 86

What Shall it profit a man

Today God called to mind a memory that was centered around Mark 8.  The Toby Mac song below has been an anthem for me for a while now, but I also found this song below.

Whatever you have going on, good, bad, or ugly or all three, don’t forget that the main focus isn’t here, it is eternity.  You will spend eternity somewhere. Will it be with God or without God?

What Does It Profit?
Artist: Farms and Fields

Mark 8:34-38

Verse 1: The world is filled with joys to find.
Pleasures unmeasured; ambitions untold.
The Father of mercies amply supplies
Common grace in life bestowed.

Verse 2: Be careful though, dear Christian one,
For in each self-indulging path
The prowling lion seeks to destroy
He wants to steal your soul right back.

Chorus: What does it profit a man
should he gain the whole world
yet loses his very own soul?
What does a man exchange in
earthly goods for the comfort of a heavenly home?
Whoever wishes to follow Jesus
The denial of self must always take place.
For in this journey while here on earth
we lose our life for the gospel’s sake.

Verse 3: The devil uses dirty tricks
He never blatantly shows all
But plays seductions quietly
And offers life in fake reward.

Verse 4: “Come here and find your place in life.”
He whispers self can finally be met.
And found in money, power, and fame
Through worldly sorrow’s intellect.”

Or maybe Satan tries great fear
To get you to submit,
And draw your eyes off of Christ
So in this life you’ll quit.
But do not fear dear Christian soul,
We have agape love,
And what the world can never do,
The gospel always does.

 “Lose My Soul”

Toby Mac
(feat. Kirk Franklin, Mandisa)

Man I wanna tell y’all something, man.
Man I’m not gon’ let these material things get in my way, y’all.
I’m tryna get somewhere.
I’m tryna get somewhere,
That’s real and pure and true and eternal.

Toby, can you go with your boy
Let’s go!

Father God, I am clay in your hands,
Help me to stay that way through all life’s demands,
‘Cause they chip and they nag and they pull at me,
And every little thing I make up my mind to be,
Like I’mma be a daddy who’s in the mix,
And I’mma be a husband who stays legit,
And I pray that I’m an artist who rises above,
The road that is wide and filled with self love,
Everything that I see draws me,
Though it’s only in you that I can truly see that it’s a feast for the eyes- a low blow to purpose.
And I’m a little kid at a three-ring circus.

I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.

Mr. Franklin, step up to the mic, sir

Check it out,
The paparazzi flashes, and that they think that it’s you,
But they don’t know that who you are is not what you do,
True, we get it twisted when we peek at the charts,
Yo before we part from the start,
Where’s your heart?
You a pimp, hustler?
Tell me what’s your title,
America has no more stars, now we call them idols,
You sit idle while we teach prosperity,
The first thing to prosper should be inside of me.
We’re free…
Not because of .22s on the range,
But Christ came in range, we said yes now we changed,
Not the same, even though I made a fall,
Since I got that call, no more Saul, now I’m Paul.

I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, let me hear the people say.
Don’t wanna walk away,
Don’t wanna walk away

Mandisa come on

How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in the light of eternity, eternity, watch me now
How do I sense the tide that’s rising?
It’s hypnotizing me from living in the light of eternity

Tell me how do I sense the tide that’s rising?
De-sensitizing me from living in the light, living in the light of eternity.

Lord what we gonna do,
We’re relying on you,
All eyes are on you Lord,
All eyes are on you, all eyes are on you Jesus.

I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Light a candle y’all lift it higher y’all come on

I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
…man against the whole world and lose your soul
I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Every … now every …
This is my honest plea, Father, won’t you cover me.
Come on

I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna walk away, and all those people say
I don’t wanna gain the whole world, and lose my soul,
Don’t wanna lose, I don’t wanna lose my soul.

Lord forgive us when we get consumed by the things of this world,
That fight for our love, and our passion,
As our eyes are open wide and on you.
Grant us the privilege of your world view,
And may your kingdom be what wakes us up and lays us down.

Hallelujah, hallelujah,
Don’t wanna lose our soul,
No, don’t wanna lose my soul.

Mark 8:34-38 (ESV)
And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel’s will save it. For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul? For what can a man give in return for his soul? For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”

11/6/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 42-44, Proverbs 6

This is what the remnant of Judah said to Jeremiah, but in reading the remainder of today’s assignment they didn’t listen and they didn’t obey and God punished them because they did not obey even when they said they would.

Jeremiah 42:1-6 (NKJV)
Now all the captains of the forces, Johanan the son of Kareah, Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people, from the least to the greatest, came near and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please, let our petition be acceptable to you, and pray for us to the LORD your God, for all this remnant (since we are left but a few of many, as you can see), that the LORD your God may show us the way in which we should walk and the thing we should do.” Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard. Indeed, I will pray to the LORD your God according to your words, and it shall be, that whatever the LORD answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back from you.” So they said to Jeremiah, “Let the LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not do according to everything which the LORD your God sends us by you. Whether it is pleasing or displeasing, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God to whom we send you, that it may be well with us when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.”

11/5/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 39-41, James 4, Proverbs 4

Proverbs 4:7-8 (KJV)
Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding. Exalt her, and she shall promote thee: she shall bring thee to honour, when thou dost embrace her.

James 4:1-3 (NKJV)
Where do wars and fights come from among you? Do they not come from your desires for pleasure that war in your members? You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

11/3/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 36-38, James 3, Proverbs 3

James 3:8-10 (NKJV)
But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison. With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God. Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

11/2/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 33-35, James 2, Proverbs 2

Jeremiah 33:1-3 (NKJV)
Moreover the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah a second time, while he was still shut up in the court of the prison, saying, “Thus says the LORD who made it, the LORD who formed it to establish it (the LORD is His name): ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

James 2:14-16 (NKJV)
What does it profit, my brethren, if someone says he has faith but does not have works? Can faith save him? If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit?

11/1/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 30-32, James 1, Proverbs 1

Jeremiah 30:1-3 (NKJV)
The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, “Thus speaks the LORD God of Israel, saying: ‘Write in a book for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you. For behold, the days are coming,’ says the LORD, ‘that I will bring back from captivity My people Israel and Judah,’ says the LORD. ‘And I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.’ ”
Jeremiah 31:10 (NKJV)
“Hear the word of the LORD, O nations, And declare it in the isles afar off, and say, ‘He who scattered Israel will gather him, And keep him as a shepherd does his flock.’

Book: James

Author: James (1:1), probably a brother of Jesus (see Matthew 13:55; Mark 6:3).

Date: Approximately AD 60.

In ten words or less: Real Christian faith is shown by one’s good works.

James 1:2-6 (NKJV)
My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.

10/31/18 Daily Bible Reading: Jeremiah 27-29, Hebrews 13, Proverbs 31

Hebrews 13:1-3 (NKJV)
Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels. Remember the prisoners as if chained with them–those who are mistreated–since you yourselves are in the body also.

Jeremiah 28:9 (NKJV)
As for the prophet who prophesies of peace, when the word of the prophet comes to pass, the prophet will be known as one whom the LORD has truly sent.”

Jeremiah 29:7 (NKJV)
And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace.

Jeremiah 26:2-3 (NKJV)
“Thus says the LORD: ‘Stand in the court of the LORD’S house, and speak to all the cities of Judah, which come to worship in the LORD’S house, all the words that I command you to speak to them. Do not diminish a word. Perhaps everyone will listen and turn from his evil way, that I may relent concerning the calamity which I purpose to bring on them because of the evil of their doings.’
