As we Gather

As we gather may Your Spirit work within us
As we gather may we glorify Your Name
Knowing well that as our hearts begin to worship
We’ll be blessed because we came
We’ll be blessed because we came

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never come to an end
They are new every morning, new every morning
Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord
Great is Thy faithfulness

As we gather may Your Spirit work within us
As we gather may we glorify Your Name
Knowing well that as our hearts begin to worship
We’ll be blessed because we came
We’ll be blessed because we came

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases
His mercies never come to an end
They are new every morning, new every morning
Great is Thy faithfulness, O Lord
Great is Thy faithfulness

Romans 8:31 (KJV) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

“Our God” was originally included on “Passion: Awakening”, a live record from the 2010 gathering of the Passion Conferences, and released as a single. The ending of this song refers to the Bible’s Romans 8:31, which says, “What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” The clause “if God is for us” gave the idea for Chris Tomlin’s album’s title.

In 2011, Chris Tomlin recorded a remake of this track with rapper Lecrae. The latter told songfacts.com, “We connected at the Passion conference and that’s where I really got to know Chris. We just really connected and we have a lot of commonalities. I was really honored that they invited me to get on stage. What’s funny is that they just have been very warm and open with us for years, and then it culminated in him asking us to be on the song.”

At the 2011 Dove Awards, Chris Tomlin won “Worship Song of the Year” with “Our God” and performed the song at the ceremony. He also won “Top Christian Song” and “Top Christian Artist” at the Billboard Music Awards” the same year.

Matt Redman, one of Chris Tomlin’s co-writers, recorded a version of the song for his compilation album, “Sing Like Never Before: The Essential Collection” (2012).
