Daily Service: Rightly dividing the Word

DAY 40

RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD

2 Timothy 2:14-16 (KJV)
Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.  But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

2 Timothy 2:14-16 (AMP)
Remind [the people] of these facts and [solemnly] charge them in the presence of the Lord to avoid petty controversy over words, which does no good but upsets and undermines the faith of the hearers. Study and be eager and do your utmost to present yourself to God approved (tested by trial), a workman who has no cause to be ashamed, correctly analyzing and accurately dividing [rightly handling and skillfully teaching] the Word of Truth. But avoid all empty (vain, useless, idle) talk, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness.

Okay familiar passage right? What does it mean to you as a Christian to rightly divide the Word of Truth?  First know more about your Bible, take the time to understand the context of history and culture that is appropriate for the area you are reading.  Understand who the book is to and what you should get out of it.  Let’s just do a quick rundown of the New Testament: 4 Gospels give you a good picture of the life and ministry of Christ. ACTs is the beginning of the church. The Epistles are church administration (when reading these picture your pastor telling you, a believer how to walk closer to God) The epistles are not about saving souls. Then there’s Revelation.  Prophecy for the future. Whole ‘nother topic entirely.
