Daily Service – Stained Glass Masquerade

Can I be real with you?

I keep coming back to this song because I know it describes me.  I put on a face and tell everyone that everything is okay, but I let Satan lie to me again and the simple fact is that I am an aging man sitting in a corner crying, feeling like I never accomplished anything, never touched a life, never made a difference.  Having said that, I shake my head, tell Satan to get behind, and I reach out once again to say, Yes we all have room for improvement. But you need to let God guide your steps.  Do you have the Holy Ghost? Do you let God guide you?

“Stained Glass Masquerade” Casting Crowns From the album Lifesong 2005
Is there anyone that fails
Is there anyone that falls
Am I the only one in church today feelin’ so small

Cause when I take a look around
Everybody seems so strong
I know they’ll soon discover
That I don’t belong

So I tuck it all away, like everything’s okay
If I make them all believe it, maybe I’ll believe it too
So with a painted grin, I play the part again
So everyone will see me the way that I see them

Are we happy plastic people
Under shiny plastic steeples
With walls around our weakness
And smiles to hide our pain
But if the invitation’s open
To every heart that has been broken
Maybe then we close the curtain
On our stained glass masquerade

Is there anyone who’s been there
Are there any hands to raise
Am I the only one who’s traded
In the altar for a stage

The performance is convincing
And we know every line by heart
Only when no one is watching
Can we really fall apart

But would it set me free
If I dared to let you see
The truth behind the person
That you imagine me to be

Would your arms be open
Or would you walk away
Would the love of Jesus
Be enough to make you stay

Today, and every day as we navigate what the world calls the holiday season, let us keep in mind that Jesus is the reason we are saved, and it Jesus that says he will keep (guard, guide) us but only if we let Him in.

1 Corinthians 1:7-9 (ESV) so that you are not lacking in any gift, as you wait for the revealing of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will sustain you to the end, guiltless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ.  God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
