Daily Service: Misplaced blessings

I have two friends in our fellowship that come to mind when God again quickens this passage to my daily ramblings.  Both folks are no longer young, and both have various physical issues which make working untenable, so they rely on disability to get by, but both have families and quite often the money does not stretch to the end of the month or to meet all needs.  I got a call from one of them who needed gas for his van to get kids to appointments and the family to church. I told him to meet me at the gas station.  It happened that I had received a free gas card, but I usually gas up on base where it is cheaper, so when he arrived, I handed him the gas card and as he thanked me, I reminded him about James 4:2-3.  The same thing happened with my wife and one of the older widows in our fellowship when she did not have enough food to feed herself and her grandson until her food stamps kicked in.  My wife took her shopping and told her not to worry about it, and we reminded her of the same passage.

Now, I am not trying to tell you that you need to walk around with your hand out, but when you have a situation and your brothers and sisters in Christ do not know about it, they cannot even help you pray for the answer, and many times they are the answer that God wants you to hear.

James 4:1-4 (ESV) What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you? You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have, because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask wrongly, to spend it on your passions. You adulterous people! Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
