Quite a ride
I really enjoyed this somewhat post-apocalyptic story where global warming wins. But the twist toward the end is when a watcher is amazed by the girl’s talent and drive. And ends with she doesn’t know what paper or copiers are.

I’ve never been this afraid.
And I know what real fear is…

After my father’s mysterious death, my violent mother only got worse. I’ve lived with the shadow of fear my entire life, but I am no different than anyone else.

Fear is what keeps us alive.

Except, it isn’t the fear of the ocean that consumed the earth a century before I was born that scares me; I’ve only ever known the sea with its harsh and terrifying beauty. And it isn’t the iron wall keeping us from the precious bit of remaining land that frightens me now.

No. This fear is something else entirely.

He stands on the rocks, watching me from a distance. I know I shouldn’t be afraid of him. He’s barely older than I am and is a watchman after all. That’s what they are there for—to protect the wall and patrol the cities on the sea. Without them, people would rise up and take the land for themselves like they did so long ago.

The watchmen handle the troublemakers. They make them vanish without a trace.

I’ve never done anything wrong, but the intensity of his stare sends a primal fear as old as the ocean surging through my veins. This can’t be happening to me. My life is only just beginning and time is already running out.

I don’t want to disappear.

The City on the Sea, book one, is the thrilling first installment in the complete young-adult dystopian romance series that reviewers are calling a “must-read.” In the midst of this futuristic climate fiction adventure, one brave girl discovers that her world isn’t what it seems and learns to stand up for herself, and to fight for the truth, no matter the cost.
