Daily Service: God is reaching out

Updated for Volume 19

The Neocatechumenal Way, also known as the Neocatechumenate, NCW, or, colloquially, The Way, is a charism within the Catholic Church dedicated to Christian formation. It was formed in Madrid in 1964 by Kiko Argüello and Carmen Hernández.[Wikipedia]

I had a long conversation recently with one of the elders in the Neocatechumenate fellowship here in Guam. What he made clear to me is that they as a fellowship do not want to leave the Roman Catholic Church but they seek more of a personal relationship with Christ. They have fellowship groups like the early church. They challenge the churches’ absolute authority but believe like the early church in evangelism and outreach.

This gentleman told me that he had considered going to a Baptist Church. He was hungry for more and the Roman Catholic Church wasn’t doing it for him.  My point in bringing up this movement is that these, at least I believe, are spirit-filled Christ-followers and they like many make up the body of Christ.  Not a building, not an organization, but people gathering together to glorify God and lift each other up.

This week I met a couple from Palau that are also part of this group, and she appreciated my invitation to my blog.

1 Corinthians 12:27-31 (ESV) Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it. And God has appointed in the church first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, helping, administrating, and various kinds of tongues. Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles? Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.

Romans 12:4-8 (ESV) For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.
