Daily Service: the greatest of these

Daily Service: The greatest of these is love

1 Corinthians 13:13 (AMP) And so faith, hope, love abide [faith—conviction and belief respecting man’s relation to God and divine things; hope—joyful and confident expectation of eternal salvation; love—true affection for God and man, growing out of God’s love for and in us], these three; but the greatest of these is love.

Greatest commandment is love, Above all of these is Love.  Are you getting the impression I hope that because God REALLY loves you that you ought to be showing His Love to others? Yes, preacher call out sin for what it is.  But make sure they know that if they sin they have an advocate with the father.

Daily Bible 26 December 2018

12/26/18 Daily Bible Reading: Zechariah 4-6, Revelation 19, Proverbs 26

Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV) So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts.

Revelation 19:1-3 (NKJV) After these things I heard a loud voice of a great multitude in heaven, saying, “Alleluia! Salvation and glory and honor and power belong to the Lord our God! For true and righteous are His judgments, because He has judged the great harlot who corrupted the earth with her fornication; and He has avenged on her the blood of His servants shed by her.” Again they said, “Alleluia! Her smoke rises up forever and ever!”

Memory Verse

20. 1 John 5:12

The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life. —1 John 5:12

Writing in a Gideon publication, Garry O. Parker recalled an exciting day when he was in the sixth grade. Several visitors were passing out a special gift. As each class was called to the assembly room, these Gideons gave a New Testament to every child who promised to read it. Garry raised his hand and received his copy.

A few months later his mother passed away after a long illness, and the following years were unsettled and difficult. One February night in 1957, Garry was sitting in his room reading his New Testament. He came to 1 John 5:12: The one who has the Son has life. The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life.

He saw clearly that our eternal future depends on whether we have Jesus as our Savior and Lord, and that message pricked his heart like a needle. “In that moment,” Garry recalled, “God awakened my understanding, and I quietly put my trust in Jesus Christ as my personal Savior and Lord. It was not an overly emotional moment but one of quiet certainty. It was the beginning of an adventure in faith with Jesus Christ, which has continued to be exciting every day.”

Garry became an effective pastor and now, retired, continues serving the Lord with this message: This is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. The One who has the Son has life. The one who doesn’t have the Son of God does not have life.

Great Assurance-of-Salvation Verses in the Bible

  • I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will have the power to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord! (Rom. 8:38-39)
  • I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to guard what has been entrusted to Him until that day. (2 Tim. 1:12)
  • I give them eternal life, and they will never perish—ever! No one will snatch them out of My hand…. No one is able to snatch them out of the Father’s hand. (John 10:28-29)

Memory Tip

The full 100 verses in this book include: (1) 1 John 5:11-12 about assurance of salvation; (2) and 1 John 5:14-15 about assurance of answered prayer. Why not memorize verse 13, too, and you’ll have an entire paragraph of assurance packed away forever in your mind.

The assurance of salvation is plainly written over the pages of the New Testament. Christ and His apostles lived in the air of certainty…. The epistles glow with the truth that we may know we possess salvation. —Herbert Lockyer

Merry Christmas to all of you who call upon the name of the Lord, worship Christ the King

Daily Bible Reading: Zechariah 1-3, Proverbs 25

  Book: Zechariah

Author: Zechariah, son of Bechariah (1:1), some believe a second, unnamed writer contributed chapters 9-14.

Date: Approximately 520-475 BC.

In ten words or less: Jewish exiles should rebuild their temple—and anticipate their Messiah.

“From Know Your Bible, published by Barbour Publishing, Inc. Used by permission”

Zechariah 1:1-3 (NKJV) In the eighth month of the second year of Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, “The LORD has been very angry with your fathers. Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the LORD of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the LORD of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the LORD of hosts.

Zechariah 2:10-11 (NKJV) “Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion! For behold, I am coming and I will dwell in your midst,” says the LORD. Many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and they shall become My people. And I will dwell in your midst. Then you will know that the LORD of hosts has sent Me to you.

Daily Service: Occupy

Daily Service – Occupy

Luke 19:13 (KJV) And he called his ten servants, and delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them, Occupy till I come.

Now this passage is a lot like the parable of the talents in how it works out so read the rest of the passage for yourself. Today I was focused on that single word: Occupy.

I wrote this yesterday during our Christmas for Christ service, so you might see my direction already. Here is your task: Find someone that seems lot and desperate. Tell that God loves them, and that you love them too, then show them. Part of what you need to invest is your time and your attention to the work of God.

Memory Verse 1 John 5:11

Assurance:
Inner Peace and Security

19. 1 John 5:11

And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. —1 John 5:11

As a college sophomore, I was mentored by an upperclassman who gave me these two verses, 1 John 5:11-12, to memorize. He called them two of the best verses in the Bible about assurance of salvation. As long as I knew these verses, he said, I’d never doubt being saved. I’ve come back to them many times, and I’m thankful for what’s not in them. There is no maybe, if, might, or hope so

This is the testimony. This is what God Himself has declared as truth. This is the record. These are the facts.

He has… It’s already done. This has been irrevocably accomplished.

He has given us… It’s not just a generic promise that He has given eternal life. It includes that personal pronoun us. And us includes you and me.

He has given us eternal life. While the whole Bible teaches that God is eternal and He bestows everlasting life on His children, it’s John who is the apostle of eternal life. He used the phrase twenty-three times in His writing.

And this life is in His Son. Jesus not only gives us life; He is the Source and Creator of life. And yet—paradox of the ages—He died to conquer death, and because He lives, we live also.

John on Eternal Life

  • Everyone who believes on Him will not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
  • The one who believes in the Son has eternal life. (John 3:36)
  • Anyone who hears My word and believes Him who sent Me has eternal life. (John 5:24)
  • I assure you: Anyone who believes has eternal life. (John 6:47)
  • Lord, who will we go to? You have the words of eternal life. (John 6:68)
  • I gave them eternal life, and they will never perish. (John 10:28)
  • This is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and the One You have sent—Jesus Christ. (John 17:3)
  • We… declare to you the eternal life. (1 John 1:2)
  • And this is the promise that He Himself made to us: eternal life. (1 John 2:25)
  • And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. (1 John 5:11)
  • I have written these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. (1 John 5:13)

Our hope is not hung upon such an untwisted thread as, “I imagine so,” or “It is likely,” but the cable, the strong tow of our fastened anchor, is the oath and promise of Him who is eternal verity. Our salvation is fastened with God’s own hand, and with Christ’s own strength, to the strong stake of God’s unchangeable nature. —Samuel Rutherford

Zephaniah 3:1-2 (NKJV) Woe to her who is rebellious and polluted, To the oppressing city! She has not obeyed His voice, She has not received correction; She has not trusted in the LORD, She has not drawn near to her God.

Book: Haggai

Author: Haggai (1:1).

Date: 520 BC- a precise date because Haggai mentions “the second year of Darius the King”(1:1) which can be verified against Persian records.
