Daily Service: Digging for Wisdom

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV) Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

2 Timothy 2:15 (CSB) Be diligent to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, correctly teaching the word of truth.

We have been encouraged and we encourage people to dig a little deeper, not just reading the Bible as a daily assignment that is checked off and forgotten.

Our BREAD 2020 reading assignment that day was Ezekiel 1-2 and Proverbs 17.  My wife has an audio Bible which she does in the office so we both hear it.  She showed me a note from the Amplified Bible for Ezekiel 1:10

Ezekiel 1:10 (AMP)  As for the likeness of their faces, they each had the face of a man [in front], and each had the face of a lion on the right side and the face of an ox on the left side; they four also had the face of an eagle [at the back of their heads] [Rev 4:7).

The note says that the four faces match the four gospels: Matthew; King; Lion, Mark; Servant; Ox, Luke; Humanity; Man, John; Deity; Eagle.

My Apostolic Study Bible has a comment on Ezekiel 5-12 with numerous cross-references and specifically mentions the same creatures in Revelation 4.

My problem, and I think many people share the same thought, is that the Old Testament doesn’t do much for me since I know for example that I am no longer under the law.  But it is just like these passages that are quoted and related throughout the New Testament, I have learned that ignoring my history makes me a poorer person in that I do not learn the lessons or appreciate the God who brought me through all this and has promised so much more.

Proverbs 2:1-5 (NKJV) My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the LORD, And find the knowledge of God.

This is also a note for those who choose to obliterate history because they find it offensive I would say “Get understanding, get wisdom, be wise”.
