Daily Service: Fruit of the Spirit; gentleness

Daily Service: Fruit of the spirit; gentleness

Galatians 5:22-26 (ESV) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Okay the context of Galatians 5 is showing the difference between carnality (walking in the flesh) and spirituality (God’s Spirit in you). Notice that the word fruit in verse 22 is singular, not plural. These are not fruits of the spirit but evidence of the Holy spirit within manifesting these attributes in you. In other words, making you more like Jesus.

Today’s focus is on gentleness. KJV reads meekness/ ESV says gentleness, Strong’s has 2 Greek words praos and praotec.

2 Corinthians 10:1-2 (ESV) I, Paul, myself entreat you, by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—I who am humble when face to face with you, but bold toward you when I am away!— I beg of you that when I am present I may not have to show boldness with such confidence as I count on showing against some who suspect us of walking according to the flesh.

Galatians 6:1 (ESV) Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted.

1 Corinthians 4:20-21 (ESV) For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power. What do you wish? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love in a spirit of gentleness?

Hosea 14:1-2 (NKJV) O Israel, return to the LORD your God, for you have stumbled because of your iniquity; Take words with you, and return to the LORD. Say to Him, “Take away all iniquity; Receive us graciously, for we will offer the sacrifices of our lips.

Joel 1:14-15 (NKJV) Consecrate a fast, Call a sacred assembly; Gather the elders And all the inhabitants of the land Into the house of the LORD your God, And cry out to the LORD. Alas for the day! For the day of the LORD is at hand; It shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

Joel 2:1 (NKJV) Blow the trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm in My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; For the day of the LORD is coming, For it is at hand:

CHURCH?

Why do you need a church? Why does a church need you?

I had two conversations recently with two very different individuals. The first told me, in no uncertain terms, that they don’t need a church fellowship to be strong, that they are okay on their own.  All my word pictures about fire and coals and three-fold cords did absolutely nothing. We were at a impasse until I thought of what was missing.

I got this from a church billboard downtown It says “Somethings missing here: CH__CH…answer UR. A CHURCH is a fellowship of believers that are there to worship together, fellowship together, and build each other up. Maybe there is a church near you that really needs your zeal for worship, for prayer, for outreach.  Maybe you need the church to keep you on the right track.  So by now you are probably asking about the second conversation.  My answer was the same for both.  The second one really needed to be in a body of believers to keep her built up and living for God.  The first one was the zeal one.

But at its base let me ask all of us a few questions. If we are supposed to be Christians which means followers of Christ, wouldn’t we want to be more like Jesus and less like the selfish, bitter, backbiting world around us? Or more plainly, do you ever see Jesus not helping, not reaching out, not rejoicing?

Today I am focusing on faithfulness.  Definition from Oxforddictionaries.com

Definition of faithfulness in English:

faithfulness

NOUN

mass noun

The quality of being faithful; fidelity.

‘faithfulness in marriage’

Psalm 57:3 (ESV) He will send from heaven and save me; he will put to shame him who tramples on me. Selah God will send out his steadfast love and his faithfulness!

Matthew 23:23-24 (ESV) “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you tithe mint and dill and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faithfulness. These you ought to have done, without neglecting the others. You blind guides, straining out a gnat and swallowing a camel!

Daily Bible Reading 10 December 2018

Good morning every one! Did you start your week yesterday with a gathering of saints (Church)?  Are you starting you day with prayer, Bible study and devotions? I’m still deciding what praise music to put on while I finish my devotions. Here’s my daily reading assignment for today

12/10/18 Daily Bible Reading: Hosea 11-13, Revelation 8, Proverbs 10

Hosea 11:4 (NKJV) I drew them with gentle cords, With bands of love, And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their neck. I stooped and fed them.

Revelation 8:3-4 (NKJV) Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. He was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel’s hand.

Going to have some CHURCH!

Well it is Sunday Morning here on Guam. So I am getting ready to go meet with like minded people to Praise the Lord and lift each other up. Who is meeting me at Apostolic Bible Fellowship Guam?

Psalm150_6

Hillsong from the 2001 albumHillsong – Let everything that has breath

Verse of the Day

I will Bless the Lord

Psalm 34:1-3 (ESV)  I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul makes its boast in the LORD; let the humble hear and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!

Psalm34_1-3

You got me and Jesus

Songs like this get me through times of self doubt. I had someone arguing with me about a Facebook post today that was about how God loves you, I mean really loves YOU!

I’m looking for a link for this, but here is the words to the song

“Me And Jesus”

When there’s nowhere else to turn
All your bridges have been burned
Feels like you’ve hit rock bottom
Don’t give up it’s not the end
Open up your heart again
When you feel like no one
Understands where you are

Someone loves you even when you don’t think so don’t you know
You got me and Jesus
By your side through the fight you will never be alone on your own
You got me and Jesus

After all that we’ve been through
By now you know I’ve doubted too
But every time my head was in my
Hands you said to me

Someone loves you even when you don’t think so don’t you know
You got me and Jesus
By your side through the fight you will never be alone on your own
You got me and Jesus

Hold on to what we got
This is worth any cost so
Make the most of life that’s borrowed
Love like there’s no tomorrow

Someone loves you even when you don’t think so don’t you know
You got me and Jesus
By your side through the fight you will never be alone on your own
You got me and Jesus

Even when you don’t think so, don’t you know
You got me and Jesus
By your side through the fight you will never be alone on your own
You got me and Jesus
Someone loves you even when you don’t think so don’t you know
You got me and Jesus

You will never be alone
You got me and Jesus
